"I guess I should be glad I'm satisfied with the simple things in life. I don't ever spend that much money, except on equipment repairs." Which can add up fast... he's glad he knows a few people who are good at mending.

Maybe he should look for someone like that here.

"... Sometimes I was. But I prefer jobs where there's a lot of other people. And I'm part of a group that's working to help the whole world with things, not just mercenary work. Like working on deals between the city-states and other lands even further away, or responding to threats that the whole world needs to come together to face. It's mostly in between those things where I do work on my own."
